FIFA 19 Ratings: Most overrated players on FUT

The FIFA 19 ratings have been announced, with many players receiving worthy upgrades after a fantastic season last year. Some, however, have received very generous ratings for the upcoming EA Sports title, and perhaps don’t quite live up to their new overalls. RealSport look at the most overrated players on the game, with all the following men rated at least 83.

Neymar (OVR 92)

Age: 26
Position: LW
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Country: Brazil
A topic of big discussion, and unquestionably a superstar, but few still regard Neymar as the third-best player in the world after messieurs Ronaldo and Messi. The Brazilian picked up the Ligue 1 Player of the Season award following his £194 million move to PSG from Barcelona, however faced plenty of critics and missed the last 16 games of the season with injury.
A 92 overall flatters Neymar, with the rating making him a sensational player to have on Ultimate Team given his 95 dribbling, 92 pace and five star weak foot.

Paulo Dybala (OVR 89)

Age: 24
Position: CAM
Club: Juventus
Country: Argentina
Paulo Dybala is a superb player, but given his lack of consistency, an 89 rating seems too high. Juventus manager Massimiliano Allegri faces a selection headache as how he gets Dybala and new star man Cristiano Ronaldo in the same team, with signs suggesting Dybala will be shipped out to the right wing, or even left on the bench. It’s a huge season for the 24-year-old, as he looks to show he has all the abilities to be a world class number ten.
His 89 Ultimate Team card has superb stats, with 91 dribbling making him a serious threat when running at defenders. This is supported by 85 dribbling, 85 shooting and 84 passing.

Thiago Silva (OVR 88)

Age: 34
Position: CB
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Country: Brazil
Thiago Silva during his time at AC Milan and certainly for the first number of seasons at PSG was a world class centre back, but we are only seeing his quality briefly nowadays. The Brazilian was dropped for the Champions League clash with Real Madrid last season, and now aged 34, the Paris captain is not the player he once was.
Silva 88’s rating on Ultimate Team is reflective of his 88 defending stat, with his next best ability his physicality at 79.

Gonzalo Higuain (OVR 88)

Age: 30
Position: ST
Club: AC Milan
Country: Argentina
Gonzalo Higuain was deemed not good enough for Juventus, so his rating simply needs to come down from 88. 23 goals last season sounds impressive, but that was nine less than he managed in the previous season, and he hasn’t scored for the Argentina national team since 2016. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo meant Higuain has been shipped out to AC Milan where he will look to show he still has top level quality.
The 30-year-old Higuain’s 88 FIFA 19 rating has stats of 87 shooting and 83 dribbling, making him a great striker to hold the ball up in the attacking third.

Gianluigi Buffon (OVR 88)

Age: 40
Position: GK
Club: Paris Saint-Germain
Country: Italy
A third PSG player, and an absolute footballing legend. Gianluigi Buffon will go down as one of the best goalkeepers of all time, but aged 40, he is well past his peak. The new signing from Juventus is expected to be used in rotation with the up-and-coming Alphonse Areola (OVR 81), but Buffon may not have much to do playing against lesser teams in the French league.
Buffon’s overall drops by one to 88 for FIFA 19, but we shouldn’t really be seeing anything more than 85. His best stats include 90 positioning, 88 diving and 87 handling.

Alexis Sanchez (OVR 87)

Age: 29
Position: LW
Club: Manchester United
Country: Chile
Alexis Sanchez is one of those frustrating players who on his day is one of the best on the planet, but the rest of the time he fails to make any sort of impact. Playing in a very ‘pragmatic’ setup under Jose Mourinho at Manchester United is stifling him, and he looks to be fizzling out.
His overall has dropped by two to 87 on Ultimate Team, but with just three goals in 22 games in his United career so far, that should have come down even further. The Chilean’s best abilities are his dribbling (89), shooting (83) and pace (82).

Keylor Navas (OVR 87)

Age: 31
Position: GK
Club: Real Madrid
Country: Costa Rica
Keylor Navas is a top goalkeeper, but if he really is worthy of an 87 rating, why would Real Madrid want to bring in the £35 million Thibaut Courtois (OVR 90) this past summer? It’s refreshing to see that Navas wants to fight for his place at the Bernabeu, but at this stage it would be surprising to see the 31-year-old remain with the Galacticos beyond the end of the season.
Navas’ overall shot up from 85 to 87, perhaps due to Real Madrid’s third successive Champions League title, but that is very flattering for a man with an error up his sleeve. His Ultimate Team card looks incredible, with 90 diving, 90 reflexes and 82 positioning.

Jerome Boateng (OVR 86)

Age: 30
Position: CB
Club: Bayern Munich
Country: Germany
Jerome Boateng was woeful at the World Cup, suffering defensive horror shows against both Mexico and Sweden. Bayern Munich looked to offload the 30-year-old centre back over the summer, with PSG reportedly interested, but a move never materialised so he will battle with Niklas Sule (OVR 84) to see who partners Mats Hummels (OVR 89).
Boateng’s overall should be no higher than 85, and it is perhaps his reputation that has saved falling any further from 88 last year. An 85 defending and 83 physicality stats still make Boateng a reliable option on Ultimate Team.

Mesut Ozil (OVR 86)

Age: 29
Position: CAM
Club: Arsenal
Country: Germany
Sticking with Germany, Mesut Ozil was made the scapegoat of Die Mannscahft’s horrible World Cup campaign, so much so the attacking midfielder has now walked away from competing for his country. Although Ozil didn’t deserve the criticism that he received, on solely club form, you cannot say the 29-year-old has delivered consistently for Arsenal, and for some time now.
A rating around 84 would be more realistic than his 86 gold card which has abilities of 86 passing and 84 dribbling.

Nicolas Otamendi (OVR 86)

Age: 30
Position: CB
Club: Manchester City
Country: Argentina
Nicolas Otamendi had a fantastic season for Manchester City last season, but that was down to the centre back’s surprising goal scoring exploits than what he did defensively. The Argentine scored five goals last season, but that may not be enough to keep him in the side with Pep Guardiola having other defensive options in Vincent Kompany (OVR 85), Aymeric Laporte (OVR 83) and John Stones (OVR 82).
Otamendi’s new 86 rating is an increase of one from last year, which is very generous. His defending stat is now 86, with physicality at 80.
